As a parent you might look at this title and state that it goes against all of the advice that we have been told about Covid-19…social distancing, self-isolation, and stay inside for either 7 or 14 days. However after listening to our Taoiseach last night address the nation his message was simple it was a call for solidarity, working together and asking ‘what can I do’ not ‘who can I blame’.

One cannot ignore extreme change - be it in education or society. To do so would be negligent in our role as teachers and carers. In responding to the closing of school, we must re-evaluate how we work and communicate that responds to the new reality and adjust our focus for the future. Therefore, over the coming weeks, we will be looking at reinforcing the communication lines and links to the boys at home and will ask parents to assist in this process.

Modern technology allows us to be creative and innovative and this situation will require all of us to be at our most innovative. As a school we are fully confident in the systems and structures put in place. These systems, allayed with the professionalism and expertise of our staff will ensure that the boys will not lose the support of the school but merely receive it in another way.

Our school has an ethos that is intrinsically caring and tolerant and I must thank many of our parents who are at the frontline as Doctors/Nurses caring for our most vulnerable.

These are difficult times and I thank the parents for their support, patience and stay at home pictures. However, I have found real pleasure at playing the games of Chess, Monopoly or indeed Risk and spending time as a family walking with our dog Lucky (as our picture above illustrates).
