New Facilities

New Facilities

Thanks to the enormous generosity of Parents, Past Pupils and others that have donated since 2007, we have been able to introduce a range of state of the art new facilities throughout the campus.

PHASE ONE (2007)

St Paul’s Senior Wing and major improvements to the 1970s Building in Blackrock College.

The new St Paul’s Senior School Wing was blessed and formally opened on the 8th October 2007 by the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Rev. Dr. Diarmuid Martin.

This major new three-storey building provides state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for students in the Leaving Certificate programme, particularly in the areas of Science, Languages and the Humanities, and will provide enormous benefits to students for generations to come. The new Senior Wing contains:

  • 18 Classrooms
  • Home Economics Room
  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology Labs
  • 3 Science Prep Rooms
  • General Science Lab
  • Study Hall
  • 2 Recreation/Assembly Areas
  • Career Guidance and Counselling Suites
  • Offices

The additional space created by this new building has also had a domino effect throughout the rest of the College, allowing for a major upgrade and refurbishment of the 1973 Building. This has provided increased classroom space and greatly improved facilities to students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Years.

PHASE TWO (2009)

Junior School Building at Willow Park and major upgrading of the Willow Park First Year facilities.

In December 2009 the new Willow Park Junior School was opened, alongside the recently refurbished Willow Park First Year Building (completed a few months previously).

The building reflects much of the most modern thinking in educational architecture and is intended to be a place for the imagination and for research, promoting in our boys an enquiring mind and a life-long love of learning.

The new Willow Junior School contains 25 new classrooms, each one designed to be bright and airy through the use of as much natural light as possible and a special aerating system. Each classroom is spacious, self-contained and equipped with computer facilities, learning resources, toilet area and storage area.

In addition the new building contains:

  • A large, multi-purpose Meeting Hall / Assembly area which lies right at the heart of the new Willow
  • A modern Library and Learning Resource Centre
  • Well-situated resource rooms
  • Two performing Arts rooms

PHASE THREE (2012)

Des Places Sports Hall

The Des Places Sports Hall was opened in October 2012 by the Papal Nuncio, his Excellency Archbishop Charles Brown. Dedicated to Claude Poullart Des Places, one of the founders of the Spiritan Order, the addition of this building has transformed the running of day-to-day extra-curricular activities, with indoor Sport now having its own home and the Jubilee Hall becoming a designated Arts and Drama space.

The Sports Hall features:

  • state-of-the-art floor area for P.E. and games including soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball and many others
  • mezzanine gym and weights area
  • dedicated classroom space for P.E.
  • dual-door dressing rooms used for both the sports hall and outdoor games

PHASE FOUR (2013)

Creative Arts & Digital Learning Centre

The Creative Arts and Digital Learning Centre (CADLC) was completed in 2013, refurbishing the old library and creating a bright modern learning centre, complete with interactive white board, collaborative study booths, iPad lending service and a meeting room, as well as a range of digital and print resources for students.
