4th Form Choir Attend Wesley Inter- Schools Choir Competition

Before the school's closure, the 4th Form choir competed in the Wesley Inter-Schools choir competition. It was their first time for competing and the boys were awarded Highly Commended. Understandably the boys were thrilled. Many congratulations to the 4th Form Choir and to their teacher, Ms Catherine Madden. Two brothers in the choir, Jamie and Eoin Simpson, wrote about their experience.

Our visit to the Wesley Inter-schools Choir competition Friday 6th March

In the morning we had our last practice session for the big competition, the Wesley Inter-Schools Choir Competition. We had been practicing a lot, every Monday morning at 8am. It’s not always easy getting out of bed to make it to choir but it has all been worth it. Catherine would take us out of class a bit for practise too so we would know our lines. We practised in the chapel sometimes. Our song was called ‘the rhythm of life’. It was a fast song.

We were up against very tough choirs but we managed to place higher up than some of them. It was our first time entering the competition so we weren’t sure what to expect. Lots of schools were there from all around the country. One of the other choirs, St Brigid’s, had sung for President Higgins and had been on the Late Late Toy Show. They were pretty brilliant and there was loads in their choir.

It was a long journey there and back. No surprise that we even sang on the bus! We sang hymns and songs and we warmed our voices up. We were all glad that we did the competition and we enjoyed it a lot. We were awarded Highly-Commended by the judges and we were the only boys choir in the competition which the judges liked. We were very proud of ourselves.

Being in the choir is great, especially when you get to perform and take part in a competition like Wesley. Catherine definitely got us singing well. We are really happy to be a part of the Willow Park Junior Choir.
